We're gearing up for architects and interior designers that need to see our products around the globe. MFP has a newly re-designed sample wood kit that really showcases our products. From the finish, thickness and durability of the material along with a new catalog with full spec information about what we have to offer.

Our sample kits are rugged enough to send around the world and in the past two weeks our product has been specified for jobs in India, the UK, Manhattan, Chicago, California, Oklahoma, Texas and Florida.

Experimenting with materials is how we make interesting floors

These two photos are examples of a new floor we're working on called MIRAGE. It consists of end grain cut, reclaimed New York water tower redwood. The most interesting part of this process is that you can see the mineral deposits in the wood from the waterline seepage in the original water tanks. These tanks are typically 40 to 90 years old. You can read more about the water tower redwood below. The curvature of the planks visible in these two samples is due to the natural curve of the water tank. After trial and error, the only way to make a floor using the end grain is to stagger the planks without going in a complete circle. The end result is a very interesting floor pattern that is one of a kind. This floor is still in it's experimental stage, but if you are interested, please feel free to give us a call. Shop LuxeHome, Where You’ll Find All The Design You Could Ask For

  

While most architects profess to being purists, either Miesian minimalists or one-off trendsetters, the reality is that most shoppers are for the most part—gasp—wildly eclectic in their tastes. Enter LuxeHome, an enfilade of showrooms in Chicago’s famed design center, the Merchandise Mart. Here, designers and shoppers alike can weave in and out of stores offering products as varied as high-end appliances to antique furnishings, stone tiles to sustainable carpets. Continue.

LuxeHome’s success as a one-stop shopping venue means it is always expanding and adding more showrooms to its boutique roster. Two new shops offer products with a history. Exquisite Surfaces, founded in 1997 by the Nataf Family, meticulously selects antique salvaged materials and creates unique hand-crafted products that stand outside of time. The store launched on the West Coast and now has showrooms in Beverly Hills, San Francisco, Laguna Niguel in California as well as New York, Greenwich, CT on the East Coast. And now Midwesterners can shop in their new Chicago showroom.

Wood salvaged from the Coney Island Boardwalk now lives in some of the finest homes and establishments.

Exquisite Surfaces offerings include antique and aged French oak, antique and reproduction limestone fireplaces, Provencal fountains, garden elements, antique Jerusalem stone, salvaged roof tiles, antique Tunisian tiles, decorative ceramic tile collections from France, Spain, Italy and North Africa and more. While they may source historic materials, many designers and homeowners incorporate them into contemporary architecture and interiors. The fabric of Old World stone, wood and ceramic tile can lend a patina and texture that appeals to the most staunch modernist equally.
Buyers for Exquisite Surfaces are constantly searching for unique  materials, traveling throughout the world, and meeting local artisans. They recently added a collection of hand-crafted tiles from Sicily and a line of antique cement tiles from Belgium. It is worth the trip to their showroom—not only can you look, touch, and feel their meticulously salvaged materials.

Another new resident at LuxeHome, Manhattan Forest Products, also sources materials that have mellowed with age. The millers re-harvest vintage New York wood from historic buildings to use in bespoke flooring, including antique oak, heart pine, chestnut, and other antique hardwoods found in old factories, mills, and breweries. They have salvaged wood from water towers and even the Coney Island boardwalk in New York. MFP is a full-service mill and lumber supplier, with the capacity to produce and ship internationally reclaimed flooring, custom molding, sawn and hand-hewn beams, architectural millwork and a wide range of other wood products. As a custom mill, they have the flexibility to produce products made from just about any type of wood, to your exact specifications. While many customers like reclaimed wood that shows its wear and tear, others prefer “new face wood” or wood that has had the top worn layer of reclaimed wood shaved off to expose the virgin surface beneath.

Course desc: The New York City skyline is legendary for its skyscrapers, architecture and the water towers on nearly every building over six stories tall. The water towers started to appear in New York City in the 1800’s as a way to bring water to upper floors in taller buildings. The redwood tanks were built and installed by barrel makers during that time. Each tank was held together with only steel straps with no adhesive to keep the contents pure. Each tank has a life span of approximately 40 years. These timeless structures are a signature of New York just like Central Park. Now we reclaim that redwood and upcycle it into many other products.

This is our second year participating in this amazing show. The Architectural Digest Home Design Show is New York's premiere event for the latest materials and products in kitchen and bath design, home renovation and commercial interior design. Visit us at both 480 in the kitchen and bath section of this fabulous show where we are debuting eight new products including lava wood a new wood floor that combines wood and imported Italian ceramic covered lava stone.

The show is always at Pier 94 on the West Side.

There were huge crowds this year, but don't let that get you down. Everyone enjoyed themselves at the show.
