The water towers started to appear in New York City in the 1800’s as a way to bring water to upper floors in taller buildings. The redwood tanks were built and installed by barrel makers during that time. Each tank was held together with only steel straps with no adhesive to keep the contents pure. Each tank has a life span of approximately 40 years. These timeless structures are a signature of New York just like Central Park. Now we reclaim that redwood and upcycle it into many other products. Experimenting with materials is how we make interesting floors

These two photos are examples of a new floor we're working on called MIRAGE. It consists of end grain cut, reclaimed New York water tower redwood. The most interesting part of this process is that you can see the mineral deposits in the wood from the waterline seepage in the original water tanks. These tanks are typically 40 to 90 years old. You can read more about the water tower redwood below. The curvature of the planks visible in these two samples is due to the natural curve of the water tank. After trial and error, the only way to make a floor using the end grain is to stagger the planks without going in a complete circle. The end result is a very interesting floor pattern that is one of a kind. This floor is still in it's experimental stage, but if you are interested, please feel free to give us a call. MFPNY collaborates with International Stone Collections, and RBW Studio, LLC to create a stunning masterpiece bar in the main lounge at the show for the world to see and touch. Ligne Roset will furnish the lounge in rich brilliant texture to compliment our centerpiece.

Old face horizontal grain, hand rubbed with a special white finish for the bar at the show

International Stone Collections construct a massive, stone bar made of Victoria White, rare imported white granite from Sierra Leone. A free flowing chain pattern comprised of Nero Marquina and Bardiglio stones designed by Nicole Fuller Interiors and cut by Creative Edge is intricately inlayed within the stone. The fixture sits atop an up-cycled wood base, reclaimed from New York water tower redwood by Manhattan Forest Products, inc.
